History of the airport
Originally opened in 1942 as a Naval Air Station on Approximately 4312 acres of land leased from Atlantic City. In 1958, the contract was given to the Federal Aviation Administration. The property was then bought by the federal government for 55000 dollars as a site for testing aviation facilities. From 1971 to 1978 the airline services operated by the airport were suspended due to some reasons but later in 1978 on 29th October the traveling operations were recovered. In February 2004 the airport was given funds of 2.5 million dollars for some kind of renovation projects. A new administrative office and a 300 person seating room were also completed in June 2004. In addition to this, a parking garage was made which had space for 1400 cars, this parking garage freed up the terminal for other activities.
In 2011 by using approximately 27 million dollars a 75000 square foot terminal was expanded. A new federal inspection section, a wonderful international gateway, additional passenger loading bridges, and enhanced check-in capabilities were a part of this new expansion project. A new airport rescue and firefighting station of 40700 square feet was opened by the Atlantic international city airport on 12th July 2013. Drive-through apparatuses are available in the station so that any emergency could be responded to immediately. This project was completed by using 15.4 million dollars. Airport parking facilities
The airport currently has a six-story parking garage that has a covered walking track inside the steps of the terminal building. The parking is inside the walkway and a shuttle service is present that will take you from the economy parking area to the terminal building. The parking in the economy area is on a first come first serve basis and if the economy parking area gets full then you can park in the overflow lot. The parking lots are open twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week.
If you want to avail of a shuttle service they are also available, and their operation starts from 4 am from the economy parking area and the service is available for the arriving and departing passengers. Each parking area has separate charges and after a grace period of 15 minutes, the charges are applied. The short-term parking would cost you almost 20 dollars per day. For the first hour, 2 dollars are charged. In economy parking, the charges are 10 dollars per day.
